Momo Piano Sessions : November - Nat Bartsch + Mirla

Momo Piano Sessions: Nat Bartsch and Mirla

Rest, slow down, escape into quiet music….

Momo Piano sessions returns! After a sold out event for World Piano Day in March, our November event sees us return for another captivating evening of Piano centred performances.

Joining Newcastles own Neoclassical composer Mirla, we are thrilled to announce we have a very special interstate guest - twice Aria nominated Melbourne pianist Nat Bartsch.

Nat is known for her lyrical, neo-romantic music at the intersection of several genres. Nat will be forming works from her latest release Hope - a cathartic neoclassical suite that responds to the Black Summer Bushfires and from her acclaimed lullaby album Forever & No Time at All.

Momo Nights : Yabok

Momo Nights is curated series of Friday nights featuring beats, samples, songs and languages in musical collaborations, accompanied by food & drinks from the Momo kitchen & bar.

Yabok means sister, and it expresses the musical relationship between band members Tara Rostron and Jodie Kell. Tara is a Kune speaking woman from Kolorbidahdah in Western Arnhem Land. Jodie is a Balanda (non-Indigenous) musician who lives and works between Newcastle NSW and Maningrida in the NT. They are both members of the ground-breaking all women’s rock band, Ripple Effect Band from Maningrida and as such have travelled together across the country with this high energy group of women. Yabok is also about Daluk (women) standing up and being proud to express themselves and the joy of music and the way it brings people together like family.

For this very special performance, Tara Rostron has crossed 550km of dirt roads, river crossings and plane flights from the exquisite escarpment country of Western Arnhem Land (think Kakadu National Park) to experience the warmth of Jodie’s home community of Newcastle on Awabakal and Worimi Country. Together they will sing songs from the top end of Australia, their voices blending in stunning harmonies and share stories of their journeys as two women, Bininj and Balanda connected through song. You might have caught them at Gum Ball Festival, but now you have the chance to hear and learn some Kune language right here in Newcastle.

Live music + 2 course Indian thali style dinner - $40 per person (to be prepaid when booking).
Option to purchase dessert on the night.
